Why Limeade is the Best Margarita Mix

It's possible to make easy margaritas without a mix! In fact, this margarita-making hack tastes better and fresher than using any syrupy sweet sour mix.

Simply Limeade only contains fresh lime juice, cane sugar, and water. It's a great shortcut for making quick and easy margaritas. First, it saves you from squeezing a ton of fresh limes. Plus, it also has a cleaner, fresher taste than manufactured sour mixes containing high fructose corn syrup.

Using Limeade for margaritas is also beneficial when making margaritas for a crowd because it involves only 3 ingredients with no juicing. The taste is perfect balance of fresh, sweet, and tart, much like Skinny Margaritas, but with no juicing!

How To Make An Easy Limeade Margarita on the Rocks

You can be sipping on the best and easiest margarita in less than 5 minutes from start to clean up!

  1. For salted rim glasses, take a lime wedge or a little bit of water and go around the top rim of a glass. Turn the glass over onto a small plate filled with kosher salt or coarse salt.
  2. Fill prepared glass with ice and pour in tequila, Simply Limeade, and triple sec. Stir and enjoy!

How to Make Frozen Margaritas Using Limeade

If you prefer frozen margaritas over on the rocks, you have a couple options.

    1. Pour the ingredients, without the ice, into a ziplock freezer bag. Seal, squeeze to combine, then lay flat in the freezer for 2-3 hours, or until frozen. The contents won't freeze completely because of the alcohol, but become slushy. Pour into a glass and enjoy! (For big batch margaritas, use a plastic jug.)
    2. Pour a 12 ounce can frozen limeade concentrate, 1 cup tequila, and 4 ounces triple sec into a blender with ice. Blend to mix and enjoy. This option is best if you plan on drinking them immediately. Makes 6 cocktails.

Simple Ingredients

  1. Tequila – Tequila choices include silver, gold, aged, agave, and dozens of brands within each category. So how do you choose? Consider is your price point. Extremely expensive tequila is best for sipping straight, but its quality would be masked by margarita ingredients. Therefore, I go for the middle ground – a mid-priced tequila that's smooth and still affordable.
  2. Orange Liqueur – These include triple sec, Cointreau, and Grand Marnier. Which orange liqueur to use also depends on how much you are willing to spend. For this easy margarita recipe, I typically use inexpensive triple sec, but will splurge on the good stuff for entertaining.
  3. Simply Limeade – This is made by Simply® Beverages and can be found in the orange juice aisle at your local grocery store. Newman's Own© also makes a version, or see below how to use frozen limeade concentrate.

Can I Use Frozen Limeade Concentrate?

If you can't find Simply Limeade, you have options! Minute Maid, Old Orchard, and many store brands make a frozen limeade concentrate.

To use frozen limeade for margaritas prepare the concentrate according to package instructions. Once it's mixed with water, use the same proportions as Simply Limeade in the recipe.

Spicy Limeade Margarita

Normally I'm not a spicy fanatic, but I'm obsessed with spicy margaritas! The jalapeno kick isn't overwhelming and gives a great balance of flavor to the sweet tartness of margaritas.

For spicy margaritas you will need a cocktail shaker.

  1. Fill cocktail shaker with tequila, limeade, triple sec, and ice. Top with 2-3 slices of fresh jalapenos.
  2. Secure on lid and shake vigorously. This releases the essence of the jalapenos and flavors the drink.
  3. Strain into a glass filled with ice and a salted rim, if desired.

More Variations of Limeade Margarita Recipe

  • Add club soda, 7up, Sprite, or ginger ale for a touch of fizz.
  • For Beer Ritas top with a light Mexican beer, such as Corona.
  • Muddle fresh fruit, such as blackberries, strawberries, or mango at the bottom of the glass for a fruit margarita. Top with ice, margarita ingredients, and stir to mix.
  • For a more tart drink, add freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • Try fresh herbs, such as basil or cilantro, shaken with the ingredients. The herbs also go well with fruit additions.
  • For a frozen fruit margarita, blend all the ingredients with 1/2 cup FROZEN fruit and a few ice cubes.

Big Batch for Parties

When making Limeade margaritas for a crowd, don't fill the pitcher or drink dispenser with ice first. This will water down the margaritas as it sits.

Instead set out glasses, some prepared with salt rims, and a bucket of ice. A pitcher of limeade margaritas will server 8-10 guests.

Mix together:

  • 5 cups Simply Limeade
  • 2 cups tequila
  • 1/2 cup triple sec

Enjoy those easy margaritas with Mexican food!

  • Mexican Chicken Casserole
  • Avocado Shrimp Salsa
  • Mexican Tater Tot Casserole
  • Tamale Pie
  • Mexican Stuffed Peppers
